Project Unloaded Unveils Its First Annual Report Showcasing Its Work to Change Gun Culture

In Its First Year, Project Unloaded Reached More than 1 Million Young People with the Message that They’re Safer Not Using Guns (SNUG)

CHICAGO Project Unloaded, an organization working to create a new cultural narrative that guns make us less safe, today released its 2022 Annual Report, outlining its work over the past year and plans for the year ahead.

Highlights include:

  • Reaching more than one million young people on TikTok and Snapchat with the message that they’re Safer Not Using Guns (SNUG)

  • Finding that nearly 20% of young people shift views against the idea that guns increase safety after seeing simple messages on gun risks

  • Releasing a first-of-its-kind survey on Gen Z members’ experience with gun violence and views on guns

  • Launching the first youth council with 12 teens from across the country, who are helping develop upcoming campaigns and advising on social media and partnership

“Less than a year ago, Project Unloaded launched with one goal in mind: to reduce gun violence by changing gun culture,” said Nina Vinik, founder and executive director of Project Unloaded. “Since our launch, we’ve reached more than a million young people and proved that our message can shift views on guns. Next year, we’ll expand on that progress, leveraging our new youth council and research to further strengthen our work. With gun deaths rising every year, this work has never been more urgent – and I’ve never been more hopeful that this work can make a difference.”

In 2023, Project Unloaded will launch several new projects, including conducting new research to better understand  Gen Z’s experiences with gun violence, expanding the successful SNUG campaign, launching new campaigns to expand its reach, and more. Read Project Unloaded’s 2022 Annual Report here.
