Fed Up and Heartbroken: Project Unloaded Responds to Shooting at Abundant Life Christian School

Following a deadly shooting at a school in Madison, Wisconsin, the teen-fueled gun violence prevention organization Project Unloaded challenges Americans to join the movement to change gun culture

CHICAGO – This morning, multiple people were killed and wounded in a shooting at Abundant Life Christian School in Madison, Wisconsin. Police said that the shooter, deceased, was a student.

“It is horrifying to watch this story repeat itself again and again – especially when this violence is preventable,’” said Nina Vinik, founder and president of Project Unloaded. “While details are still unfolding, one thing is crystal clear: It’s the guns. Schools and communities will be safer when fewer Americans choose to live with guns. Ending gun violence demands that we work together to change America’s deadly gun culture.”

According to Project Unloaded research, at least half of young people worry about being shot weekly or more often and about half also say that they worry about school shootings just as often. Nearly half (45%) of Gen Z live in homes with guns.

“As we inch closer to winter break, so many students, teachers and parents hold their breath, hoping nothing bad will happen,” said Anvesha Guru, a member of Project Unloaded’s Creator Corps from Brookfield, Wisconsin. “I am fed up and heartbroken that yet another school community has been devastated by gun violence, especially this close to the holidays. My thoughts are with the young people whose lives will never be the same after this, and my prayers are with the families who will be celebrating the holidays without their loved ones. We should all feel safe – and be safe – at school.”
