No Matter What Happens Next, Gun Culture Must Change

Ahead of election day, Project Unloaded makes the case that the work to reset the cultural narrative on guns must continue

CHICAGO – Tomorrow, Americans will select the next set of leaders to hold public office in DC and beyond. Ahead of polls closing, Project Unloaded released the following statements on the future of gun violence prevention – regardless of who wins elected office.

“Change doesn’t start – or stop – at the ballot box,” said Nina Vinik, founder and president of Project Unloaded. “To reduce gun violence in the long term, we must stop normalizing gun ownership and move towards a future in which the facts about gun risks are clearly understood: Guns make us less safe.”

“When it comes to making young people safer, electoral change is one important piece of the puzzle,” said Zoe Kaufman, a second-year member of Project Unloaded’s Youth Council. “We must also turn the page on America’s deadly gun culture. And on culture change, young people are the natural leaders.”
